Booker T. and Bettye LaVette

Booker T would be the fiery organist who led the MG's, the instrumental R&B band that was a driving force behind Stax Records in the 60s, most notably with the immortal funky blues jam "Green Onions;" on the other hand, his 2009 comeback album Potato Hole (featuring guitar work by Neil Young!) used the Drive-By Truckers as the new backing band. For that matter, so did the 2007 album from legendary Detroit soul singer Bettye LaVette, though her latest record consists entirely of her draping her magnificent voice across rock songs by bands like Pink Floyd and the Rolling Stones.
